With this info, I'll have a good excuse to purchase a
"Kill A Watt" meter and start showing everyone I know
how to save NOW.

What features do I want to make sure a
"Kill A Watt" meter has on it before I purchase ??
Thank you.
after further study we have discovered that Europe has power factor corrected bulbs ,and it is done after the dc conversion diodes in the circuit and is not easy to do in usa bulbs ,you still save when you buy these bulbs but not as much as advertised
so unless usa suppliers get called on the carpet by consumers we will continue to get the un corrected bulbs .
however the kill a watt meter is still useful for testing your washing machine ,dishwasher, pool pump, refrigerator and any motor in your home or business. then you can try various capacitors 1 to 5 mf poly.250 volt (not electrolytic) would be a good place to start ,while checking the kill a watt meter pf reading to see when the motor becomes a factor of .95 to 1.
the kill a watt meter is available on line from
www.harbourfreight.com or if you are lucky you have a local store and if you get an equilv. meter look to see if it shows pf or power factor correction reading .also our stereos and tv are not pf corrected so the watt specs do not show what we are being charged for on these items also but some computers are pf corrected.
