has anyone got a UK part number for a suitable relay say from Maplins or Rapid ive had a look through their sites and cant work out which one i need

Go to a car accessory shop like halfords and buy a 12v bosch relay. ask for the one with both 87 and 87a contacts. they are very robust and last a long time even when set up to self oscillate.

YES!!! Get a relay with an NC contact, adapting the
radio shack relay is not as good, the plate of metal
we "adapt" for an NC contact is made of inferior stuff!
It does not last as long as a "contact" (which is harder).

Get the real thing! BOSCH! Save your pounds and save time!
