Hi,
Have any of you thought about using a Fisher & Paykel washing machine motor. It has permanent magnets in the rotor. They are used here in Australia and in New Zealand (the home of Fisher & Paykel) for wind turbines (apart from washing machines). The circuit board rectifies the 240 mains supply and chops up the 349 volt DC into three phases. The stators are factory wired in star configuration. Lots of modifications around to change them to delta and to re arrange the outputs of the coils in series or parallel groups. Some enterprising people rewind them. The stator is about nine inches across (230mm). Check out an Australian web site virtually dedicated to them at. http://www.thebackshed.com/windmill/default.asp
The circuit board is "coated" with surface mount chips and not repairable so a lot of them end up at the dump/tip, where they can be obtained for a few dollars or sometimes for free. Check out the attached images.
Regards,
Ricco

Ive got two of these at home waiting for it. :D

Im thinking I may use halls to drive all three phases.

Ive seen one modified in NZ with 2/3's of the coils cut off to run on one phase.

Lots of options available, Id like to do it with the least amount ot modifications possible.

Regards
